High Court suspends IEBC’s KSh1.5 Million Fine Against Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia

High Court suspends IEBC’s KSh1.5 Million Fine Against Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia

The High Court has temporarily suspended the enforcement of an Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) decision requiring Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia to pay a KSh1.5 million fine.

In interim orders, the court stayed the implementation of the electoral body’s judgment delivered on July 10, 2026, pending the hearing and determination of Muhia’s application challenging the decision.

The court ordered that the IEBC’s judgment will not take effect until it hears and determines the legislator’s application.

“That in the meantime, pending the hearing and determination of the application, an order is hereby issued staying the judgment/determination of the 2nd Respondent issued on 10 July 2026,” the court order states.

The temporary orders mean the IEBC cannot enforce the KSh1.5 million penalty against Muhia until the High Court determines whether the commission’s decision should stand.

Muhia moved to the High Court seeking to block the enforcement of the IEBC ruling, arguing that the decision should not be implemented before the court considers her challeng
