Lawyer Danstan Omari has demanded KSh100 million in compensation and an unconditional public apology from TV47 Kenya, accusing the media house of publishing defamatory statements that questioned his professional status as an advocate.

In a demand letter dated July 13, 2026, Omari through his lawyer Shadrach Wambui said Tv47 falsely referred to him as a “self-proclaimed advocate” in a YouTube video titled “TV47 stands by Exposé as Prophet Owuor’s church seeks its removal,” which was published on July 12 following the National Healing Service organized by the Ministry of Repentance and Holiness at Uhuru Park in Nairobi.

According to the letter, the publication gravely injured Omari’s reputation by suggesting that he was not a qualified Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. His legal team argues that the description portrayed him as an impostor who had fraudulently assumed the status of an advocate, thereby undermining years of legal practice and professional achievement.

The lawyers maintain that Omari is a duly admitted and practising Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with an established legal career spanning more than 15 years. They state that he obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi in 2008, enrolled at the Kenya School of Law in 2009, and was admitted to the Roll of Advocates on November 4, 2011. They further note that he holds a valid practising certificate under the Advocates Act and earned a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree later in 2011.

The demand letter accuses TV47 of publishing the statement without carrying out basic journalistic verification of Omari’s credentials, despite the information being a matter of public record. The lawyers argue that the broadcaster acted recklessly and with malice by failing to establish the facts before airing the publication.

According to the letter, the publication has already caused significant reputational harm. Omari says he has received numerous calls, messages and inquiries from clients, judicial officers, fellow advocates, former students, colleagues and members of the public seeking clarification over the allegations. The lawyers contend that the publication has also sparked discussions across social media platforms and professional forums, exposing the advocate to ridicule, embarrassment and public scrutiny.

The lawyers argue that its continued availability on TV47’s digital platforms compounds the alleged reputational damage as it remains accessible to viewers and can be shared widely online.

Omari’s lawyers have demanded that TV47 immediately remove the video from its YouTube channel and all other platforms under its control. They are also seeking a full, unequivocal and unconditional apology acknowledging that lawyer Omari and the other lawyers featured in the publication are duly admitted and practising advocates of the High Court of Kenya.

In addition, the legal team wants Tv47 to provide a written undertaking that neither TV47 nor its journalists, editors, presenters or employees will publish similar statements about Omari in the future.

The lawyers have further demanded KSh100 million as compensation for what they describe as grave injury to Omari’s professional reputation, dignity and legal practice.

They have given the media house two days to comply with the demands, warning that failure to issue the apology, remove the publication and compensate their client will result in court proceedings.

The publication arose after Lawyers Omari, Cliff Ombeta and other advocates represented the Ministry of Repentance and Holiness following the church’s Sunday Service at Uhuru Park in Nairobi.
