He is being investigated for the murder of Raphael Kimuli Wambua a police officer attached at Central Bank of Kenya.

The prosecution told court that preliminary investigations proved that on February 23, 2025 the deceased Raphael Kimuli in the company of his brother Erick Ngolania Wambua a police officer attached at GSU headquarters went to watch football matches and drink at Wasafi bar.

They allegedly stayed in the bar up to around 1:20am and proceeded home however, few steps from the bar they were allegedly attacked by Tarus who fatally shot the deceased person using his firearm Jericho pistol s/no 44338440.

After the shooting incident an angry mob attacked the suspect and police officers from Ruaraka police station rescued him and rushed him to Kenyatta National Hospital.

The police are asking court for 14 days to detain the suspect to conclude their investigations before forwarding the file to the DPP for further directions.

However, the defense through advocate Shadrack Wambui objected to the application saying that it defies logic.

According to Advocate Wambui, the application to detain the suspect is an attempt by the state to erode the gains and promises that Kenya gave to itself when we promulgated the 2010 Constitution.

Magistrate Onyina will deliver his ruling tomorrow on whether he will allow the police to keep Tarus in custody for 14 days.
