Three GSU officers were on Tuesday charged before a Mavoko law court with abducting a Chinese national and allegedly extorting millions from him during the ordeal.
Samwel Matia, Fredrick Mwololo and Musyoki Kimwele were arraigned before Magistrate Barbara Ojoo where they denied two counts of robbery with violence and abduction.
It was alleged that on January 8 this year in Mua Hills Athi River, jointly with others not before court while armed with offensive weapon namely hammer robbed DI, Wanhang of property valued at Sh 295,000 and used actual violence on him.
On the second of abduction, it is alleged that the same day they abducted the Chinese national and secretly confined him.
Through their lawyer Danstan Omari, the officers asked court to release them on bail pending trial.
Omari told court that his clients are police officers who are willing to abide by the rules and conditions of bail that will be granted to them.
Magistrate Barbra Ojoo said she will deliver the ruling for bail on February 12 in the meantime the three will be held in custody.
According to the police report, the three are all police officers who were placed at the scene of crime by call data.
The victim is said to have positively identified one of the accused persons and the car that was used to abduct him by the officers.
The officers are also said to have forced Wanhang to part with over Sh 9 million during the abduction by telling him to transfer the money to them.
The prosecution does not want the three released on bond saying the security and safety of the victim is at stake as his residence was broken into and property worth Sh 1.8 million was stolen, the matter was reported to the police.
