Ex-Mungiki leader Maina Njenga on Monday asked the court to give him protection from police harassment linking them to his abduction over the weekend.

Throuhg his lawyers, Njenga told court that he was abducted on Saturday night alongside Lekishe by hooded police from his home.

They told Makadara Chief Magistrate Tito Gesora that the said officers did that knowing full well that he was they were to appear in court today.

Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru narrated to court how the alleged hooded officers blindfolded Njenga and Lekishe, a co-accused and bundled them in a car.

Njiru said their clients were later dumped in Limuru Banana Estate after three hours being driven around.

Lawyer Evans Ondieki on his part wondered why the police officers who are state officer would wear hoods and hide their faces when they picked his clients up.

Ondieko said they were afraid that the said abduction would have interfered and even affected the criminal case if they had not been released on time to appear in court.

Njenga is charged with being found with Maasai rungus, bows and arrows among other things.

It was alleged that on July 20, 2023, in Kiserian within Kajiado, without reasonable excuse, Njenga and two others were found in possession of offensive weapons which included 14 machetes, 24 Maasai swords, 46 rungus and three jembe sticks.

The charge sheet said the circumstances raised a reasonable presumption that the said offensive weapons were intended to be used in a manner prejudicial to public order.

The DPP denied any knowledge of an abduction saying they only learnt of it through the media.

“Your honour, whatever happened is not related to the current case”, the court heard

They prosecution then advised the defence lawyers to proceed to the High court and file for violation of their clients’ rights.

The trial for the case kicks off on December 3.
