NTSA boss George Njao risks being sent to civil jail after refusing to comply with court orders that had ordered for release of impounded Matatus and number plates to the owners.
Through Lawyer Danstan Omari, the operators now want Njao held personally liable for disobedience of court orders.
This was after the operators accompanied by lawyers Omari and Shadrack Wambui went to the NTSA offices on Tuesday afternoon to effect the order but it was disobeyed.
Omari while addressing the media said they are going for Njao in person for treating the order as a tissue paper and not an order issued by the high court.
They have threatened to start a contempt of court proceedings again the director general of the NTSA for defying court orders directing him to release impounded vehicles.
This comes one day after Justice Bahati Mwamuye issued an order to the NTSA to release confiscated number plates and the illegally impounded vehicles belonging to matatu operators.
Justice Mwamuye issued an order directing the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to release number plates of matatu’s commonly called Ganyas that they had confiscated following a crackdown that has been taking place since January 20, 2025.
