A Makadara Law Courts has ordered the detention of a senior officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for 14 days to allow police to complete investigations into the suspected murder of his lover in Kasarani.

The suspect, Daniel Mburu Macharia, who serves in the DCI Anti-Narcotics Unit, was presented before the court after being linked to the death of 43-year-old Florence Nyagah. Her lifeless body was discovered inside their house at By-Faith Flats along Lumumba Drive in Roysambu on March 1, 2026.

Investigators told the court that the deceased was found lying in a pool of blood inside the living room with visible injuries, raising suspicions of a violent attack.

According to police, Macharia was the last person seen with Nyagah before her death. The two were reportedly living together as husband and wife in the same house where the body was later discovered.

The court heard that preliminary investigations indicate that the couple had a quarrel on February 27, 2026. The dispute was allegedly witnessed during a WhatsApp video call between the deceased and her daughter. During the call, Nyagah reportedly asked her daughter to come to the house to help resolve the disagreement, but the suspect is said to have intervened and indicated that they would handle the matter privately.

Police said concern arose when family members could no longer reach the deceased on phone. When relatives later visited the house, they reportedly found her body lying in the living room with blood stains visible in the house.

Crime scene officers who processed the house recovered a blood-stained knife hidden in the kitchen, which investigators believe may have been used during the attack.

The investigating officer further informed the court that the suspect allegedly fled after the incident and switched off his phone before later presenting himself at Naivasha Police Station after media reports about the case began circulating.

Detectives sought 21 days to detain the suspect, saying they still needed time to record witness statements, conduct DNA analysis on recovered exhibits, review CCTV footage and subject the suspect to a mental assessment.

They also told the court that because the suspect is a police officer with knowledge of the criminal justice system, there was a risk he could interfere with witnesses if released before investigations are complete.

The magistrate granted the application in part, allowing police to detain Macharia for 14 days. The case will be mentioned on March 19, 2026 to confirm the progress of the investigations.
