The case against former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju over allegations of giving false information to police took a new turn on Thursday after the prosecution’s key witness told a Nairobi court that Tuju did not give her any false information.
Chief Inspector Purity Kobia, who was the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Karen Police Station in March 2026 when Tuju reported an alleged incident, testified that the former minister only reported being trailed by a white motor vehicle.
Kobia is listed as the complainant in the charge sheet against Tuju. However, while testifying before the court, she said she did not draft the charge sheet and was unaware of how her name and police service number came to be included in the document. The police officer further told the court that she had never seen the charge sheet before and did not author it.
Kobia told the court that Tuju did not give her any false information. “Your Honour, because I am not the one who wrote this charge sheet, there was no false information that was given,” Kobia told the court. She said the information Tuju reported to police concerned a white vehicle that was allegedly trailing him. According to Kobia, Tuju did not report to her that he had been abducted.
Tuju is facing charges of allegedly giving false information to police on March 21, 2026, after reportedly informing authorities that he had been followed by a white motor vehicle and subsequently abducted. He has denied the charges and was released on bond as the case proceeds.
The testimony by Kobia could become significant in the case, given that she is named as the complainant in the charge sheet but told the court that she neither prepared the document nor received any false information from Tuju.
The hearing is scheduled to continue on October 29, 2026.
